United Sign Little Pea
United have just announced the signing of 21 year old Mexican, Javier Hernández Balcazar, whose nickname is Chicharito which I am reliably informed means “Little Pea”.
I’m not sure why he’s called Little Pea but it could be down to the fact that at just over 5′ 9″, he isn’t exactly the tallest player in the world.
I must admit, I don’t know much more about him other than that but his goalscoring record looks decent enough.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing plenty of him during our pre-season friendlies and it’s going to be interesting to see how he gets on.
The injury to Rooney recently has shown just how threadbare we are with attacking options. The Michael Owen “gamble” hasn’t really paid off. As a free signing, it was worth a punt but we have been crying out for a quality, young striker who is not “one for the future” but has what it takes right now.
Hernandez might just be the one we’ve been looking for… here’s hoping…
The video below shows some of his goals… he does look good!

He is certainly not one for the future… he can go out there and score… I hope he doesn’t against England though…
I am just concerned that he might be one of those strikers like Rossi or Forlan who seem to score bagfulls of goals at every other team but don’t quite cut it (either through lack of opportunity or lack of confidence) whilst at Manchester United.
This is the gamble when buying any player though.
I’m delighted at the news though and the news has certainly lifted some of the doom and gloom surrounding Manchester United over the last 24 hours.
The good news is that with Mexico in Group B and England in Group C, we can’t meet them until at least the Quarter Finals but I will be watching Mexico’s games with added interest now.
Chicharito is called that way because his father, also a professional soccer player who was part of Mexico’s national team in 1986, was called the “pea”. That’s why the diminutive comes down to his nickname. His grandfather was also one of the great players of Chivas, the team where Chicharito is coming from.
To know more about Chicharito, you should search on youtube chicharito’s goal with both chivas and mexico’s national team, his performance has been incredible
There’s a friendly match against Mexico @ Wembley just before the World Cup…
Fergie won’t let him play!
But he’ll have plenty of South American friends here; Valencia, Anderson, Rafael, Fabio and Possebon. So I hope he adapts pretty quickly!
And if he does get home sick, Fergie can always take him to Chiquito’s for a Burrito!
this young lad looks really promising. Looking at his goals on youtube, he seems impressive. After playing a bit of FM myself, i remember that he was one of the youngsters i was eyeing. haha.
High hopes for this youngster. Hope he can help the team dramatically.
.. How much was he signed for btw?
and oh. just as a statement, he looks like a prettyboy. haha
Details surrounding the finances are sketchy atm but expect further details when the press get their teeth into it.
Yes, he does look a bit of a pretty boy… should help sell a few posters amongst the young ladies in the fanbase! (and those amongst the boys who miss Ronaldo and his pink hotpants)
And should help to sell shirts in Mexico….
Right now he is on the top of goal scorers in Mexico´s league, and he scored 4 goals in 4 matches with Mexico.
AND he does look like a prettyboy :p
Hi Pablo… sorry, I missed your comment yesterday. Thanks for that information.
I must admit, my knowledge of Mexican football and their players is sketchy at best. I do believe Hernandez is the first ever Mexican player to play for Manchester United.
We’re all very excited to have him on board, though and I am going to look forward to watching Mexico in the World Cup.
How do you think he will cope with the “physical” side of the English game?
If Mexican footballers are anything like Mexican boxers, he should be a tougher little nut than his pretty boy looks would suggest!
Hi RedSoul. Thanks for visiting and sharing your comments. Let’s hope the Rooney/Hernandez partnership terrorizes defences in the same way that Cole/Yorke did all those years ago!
I am seeing figures of £10 Million being quoted in some of today’s newspapers which seems like a bargain if he proves as good for United as he has been for Mexico and Chivas.
Certainly, if he has a cracking World Cup then there would undoubtedly be more clubs interested in signing him and the price would skyrocket so signing him now could well represent a good bit of business by Fergie.
I have to say however that the newspaper quoting £10 Million (the Express) also say that Chicharito means “Little Cat” so I don’t know how much value to put on their word!
BIG BIG PLUS…. He already speaks English very well… I hope he understands SAF’s accent too…
hmm no, im pretty sure that chicharito means ´´little pea´´ and its because his green eyes.
pff at least he knows how to jump, great goal.

ahhahaha! i love the music
Certainly showing some new attributes that can add to our current squad. Instinctive striker. Something we never really had after Nistelrooy. (I’m a Nistelrooy fan)… and maybe Larrson considering his short term loan spell.
Has anyone heard of this guy, Angel Di Maria on our transfer radar. I know its rumours but I really think it would be a good replacement for Giggs. It would certainly be another addition to the Nani/Valencia wingers that we’ve been using. Ok, enough said. WATCH THE LINK BELOW.

Yeah, Di Maria looks a livewire alright and I have seen our name connected with him for quite some time too.
I dunno now though, with Valencia settling in well and Nani finally showing something like the promise we paid for a few years ago, is another winger going to be high on Fergie’s shopping list?
Personally, I think someone for the middle of the field is what we need. Fletcher and Carrick are too similar for me.
And yes, RVN was an unbelievably good striker. It’s a pity we couldn’t have held onto him for longer because even now, I still see him knocking in some cracking goals.
By all accounts, he didn’t really get on well with Ronaldo and it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him leave Real Madrid shortly after Ronaldo arrived there.
A pity because the two of them together in the same team over the last five or six years would have been amazing.
hi im mexican, i just enter here to say that chicharito means “Little Pea” and im a big fan of manchester u, a lot of mexican and latinamericans are, but whit this news we will see a lot of manchester shits in my country.
Watch mexico vs south africa in the inaugural game of the world cup.

Hi Armando,
Great to hear from you. Thanks for your comments.
I am hoping that it is either a spelling mistake or something was lost in translastion but what do you mean by “Manchester Shits”?
Ahhh…. SHIRTS!???
Yeah, I’m going to be watching all of Mexico’s World Cup games now so I can see for myself Chicharito in action and those friendly games you mentioned should be interesting too.
