The News The Red Knights Didn’t Want To Hear

According to Forbes magazine, Manchester United is the most valuable football club in the world with a value of £1.19 Billion – quite some distance ahead of second placed Real Madrid (£859 Million).

Probably not the news the Red Knights particularly wanted to hear as they put together their offer to the Glazers which has been rumoured to be somewhere in the region of £1 Billion.

This is the side of the story that the anti-Glazer faction does not want you to see and as far as I can see, proves that the Glazers are doing as good a job as anybody of marketing the club well to the worldwide fanbase and continue to seek and tap into new markets which can only benefit the club in the long-term.

On a related note, it was with some dismay that I read that “United Supporters for Change” have published the names of most of the 400 or so corporate customers of Manchester United.

The hope is that these people will, at best, be shamed or, at worst, intimated into withdrawing their custom from Manchester United which apparently accounts for half of all Manchester United’s matchday revenue.

Manchester United are obviously concerned that somebody from within has obviously leaked this confidential information to “United Supporters for Change”. Should this lead to any loss in revenue then that will obviously be another thing they will not be happy about.

Personally, I abhor this kind of thing. It is the same kind of dirty tricks I talked about a couple of months ago. They believe that by plunging Manchester United to the point of financial ruin and besmirching the good name of the club that the Glazers will be forced to sell up.

Presumably, if they get their wish and there’s still enough left in the kitty once the Glazers have taken out everything they need to ensure that they at least come out of it with pockets intact (because, make no mistake, they will look after themselves first – if you want to play dirty, they will play dirty right back) then they believe that all the people whose trust they have betrayed will simply come back and start handing over the hundreds of thousands of pounds again and the club will simply continue as the most valuable club in the world and everything will be fine.

Personally, I can’t help but think that these people haven’t really thought this through, if they have thought at all. It probably just seemed like a good idea at the time. Well-intentioned but a bit misguided.

As for the Red Knights, I presume that they have now finalised their bid (it was supposed to be ready at the end of last week) and are now just waiting for the season to be over before riding in on their white horses to save us all from the hell we’ve all been suffering for the last five years (yes, I am being sarcastic – just in case you weren’t sure).

Hopefully, “United Supporters for Change” will name the Red Knights too, however many there are because if they do take over then I would seriously like to know whose companies to boycott should they make a mess of things.
