Rodrigo Possebon

Rodrigo Possebon

Rodrigo Possebon has gone to Portuguese side Sporting Braga on a season-long loan.

We never really got a good look at Possebon. He made his debut in the first game of the 2008/09 season in our 1-1 draw against Newcastle but on his next appearance, over a month later, he was on the wrong end of a terrible tackle by Pogatetz when we played Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup.

At the time, I was convinced he had broken his leg but the injury was not as bad as first feared and he made his comeback a month later for the reserves, scoring a goal in a 3-0 win over Manchester City.

He made two more appearances for the first team (coming on as a sub for Ronaldo in our FA Cup 5th Round tie against Derby in February and the Carling Cup Final against Tottenham).

Overall though, it was all a bit stop-start and despite being highly rated and very promising, he could never get the games under his belt in order to settle.

Hopefully, this loan spell at Braga will give him plenty of football and he’ll come back to United all the better for it and won’t just fade away like so many other promising United youngsters who have gone out on loan.
