It’s Bayern Munich

Manchester United have been drawn against Bayern Munich in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League.

The draw has been quite kind in that we play the first leg away from home which is always the way Fergie prefers it.

The full draw looks like this:-

Lyon v Bordeaux

Bayern Munich v Manchester United

Arsenal v Barcelona

Inter v CSKA Moscow

Should we get past Bayern Munich then we will play the winner of Lyon v Bordeaux (this time we play the first leg at home).

What this all means of course is that a repeat of last season’s final is on again.

AWESOME! this should be interesting. I really can’t see us losing against bayern with the form we’re in.

Good ties. I’m quite happy. Never easy, but easier than playing barca. Lol

I think Bayern are going to be tough opponents. I expect us to have to play Lyon if we go through though and they are dangerous.

I just think something has to give here, I just can’t see the same two teams getting to the final two years in a row. I’m almost certain it has never happened before.

With robben and Ribery, definitely dangerous. Just hope evra and Neville/Rafael can take them
on. Worried about the right side of defence tho. Neville with the experience but slow, or Rafael who has pace but no experience. Hrmmm.. Brown? Lol

Robben seems like a new player again. He lost the plot a bit at Chelsea but his goal against Fiorentina was stunning. The way he cut inside suggests that it might not just be Evra who will have their work cut out with him. Over on the right, yes, I agree. Rafael is a bit of a liability at times. He is so attack-minded, he sometimes leaves a gaping hole at the back and someone like Ribery will exploit that. But as you say, could Neville live with Ribery in terms of pace?

I think Fergie might stick with Neville though, he coped with Ronaldinho far better than Rafael simply because of his experience. He knows when to go forwards and when to hold back and get into a good defensive position. With Valencia over on the right, there’s a bit more defensive cover and pace there to get back and help with Ribery.

What gives me confidence though is the fact that Fiorentina (who are hardly a European superpower) came within a whisker of knocking them out. Robben’s goal is the sort that deserves to win any match but on another day, it’s the kind of shot that flies high and wide. Don’t forget also that they won the first leg thanks to another last minute goal which everyone agreed (including the Bayern players and manager) was a mile offside.
