Hold Onto Your Hats!
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love my country (England), I love the World Cup and I love the fact that we’ll be playing in it next summer but this latest International break has been like a punishment for every bad thing I ever did (not that there have been many, understand, but how was I to know at such an early age that butterflies needed their wings in order to be beautiful?)
Anyway, where was I?
Oh yes. International break, England, World Cup.
As England prepare to finally end this World Cup qualifying campaign that was officially stamped in dead rubber when we qualified two games ago, I find myself looking ahead to the games ahead for Manchester United and it makes pretty mouthwatering reading.
Our next game against Bolton might not be the most exciting match in the fixture list but after our dismal display against Sunderland and my subsequent musings as to whether we had become a big game team, it is an absolute cast-iron, must-win match.
After that, if Manchester United have become a big-game team then they should be in their element because within the following three weeks or so we have:-
- An Away Tie against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League – three points there will put us within touching distance of qualifying for the next stage of the CL.
- Liverpool away in the Premier League – need I say more?
- Barnsley (away again!) in the Carling Cup.
- Blackburn at Home in the Premier League.
- CSKA Moscow at home in the Champions League which will hopefully be the game where we cement our position in the next stage of the competition.
- Chelsea Away in the Premier League!
There’s then yet another break but I think after that lot, it will be well deserved and the players might need a wee rest too!
It is quite astonishing to think that all those games will be played between 21st October and 8th November.
Six massive games in eighteen days and four of them away from home.
Bring it on!

Yes, you’re right! BRING IT ON!
As for Liverpool and Chelsea, well, anyway you don’t win the League by taking all the point from “the big four”, so two draws will not be so bad.
I think this is the period that SAF once called it “the most important 3 weeks of 2009″. If is going to be an away win in Moscow, I’m sure that everything is then right on track
Cheers.
Hi Andrii! Thanks for visiting! Yes, it’s hard to imagine six wins from all those games and something has to give somewhere. Draws in those two games would not be a disaster but I do feel that we need to take as much as we can from Chelsea this season because they don’t look like giving too much away. Bring it on! (again!)
Yep, huge period. I can’t really see us beating Chelsea away, but we could win at Anfield. 3 points from them two is best result possible I think, 4 could be greedy. We’ll progress in the CL regardless I think, it’s not that tough a group. Not all that bothered about the Barnsley tie, and although we do sometimes struggle at home against Blackburn, we should see them off.
You should be a promoter Jeffers!
