FC Seoul 2 – 3 Manchester United

A much sterner test this one as United found themselves behind not once but twice but managed to come back on each occasion to eventually win 3-2.

This game was actually very entertaining to watch and there were some eye-opening performances from the opposition, not least of all that of two goal Dejan Damjanovic.

Owen came on for about 30 minutes and still came within a whisker of scoring yet another goal but the damage was done by his other strike partners as Rooney, Macheda and Berbatov scored one apiece.

Macheda’s goal was perhaps the pick of the bunch as he showed great composure to round the keeper and still fire it in with his left foot but Berbatov’s goal is noteworthy because he has now had three headers in three games and this was perhaps the hardest of the three but he directed the ball well with power from a standing jump and it went right into the bottom corner from around 8-10 yards out.

Rooney’s goal looked like a spectacular header on first glance but replayed showed it actually came off his shoulder as he was probably put off slightly but the jump of the defender in front of him.

There were some flashes of very good play from United but they still look like a team that is just getting back into some kind of rhythm at the moment as far too many passes went astray and the final ball was often lacking.

With little in the way of natural width, we played through the middle a lot and Seoul had an eight man defensive wall waiting for most of our attack so often, we were trying to thread the ball through the eye of a needle and it just didn’t come on.

It’s going to be interesting when Antonio Valencia finally joins up with the squad to see if we can start to get a bit more width and a few balls whipped into the box from wider angles.

For now though, three games, three wins and eight goals is not bad regardless of the opposition.
