The ball was bouncing around messily. I ahev to say I agree that Ramsey’s leg had alread snapped before Shawcross made the touch, however, Im sure every body wishes the best for Aaron Ramsey!

Wise words – as a yid at peace I do not wish that on any professional, but in yesterday’s Sunday Times is a clear picture of Ramsay’s leg clearly already broken, with Shawcross’s foot so far away there is a ball inbetween!

They collided after the ball had gone, and as Ramsay had kicked the ball it was a foul, but the damage was done by the pitch!

Hi Fred, thanks for your comment. I have let it through unmoderated because I really don’t like to alter anyone’s comments but I must say that I don’t necessarily agree with you 100% on that one, especially the last part. I have seen a few images and I have watched replays but none show conclusively exactly what happened here except that Shawcross went for a ball that was no longer there and then Ramsay was flying through the air with a broken leg.

I have seen images of Shawcross’s foot twelve inches away from Ramsey’s leg which is clearly broken and people are saying that they were “obviously” taken just after the point of contact and Shawcross’s foot is away from the leg because it has “rebounded” from the impact.

If this is the case then would not have Ramsay’s foot also have “rebounded” had it not been planted awkwardly in the turf? At what point after the impact did Ramsay fly over Shawcross – at the time, it seemed pretty instantaneous but on the photos, Shawcross has “rebounded” but Ramsay remains “standing” (with a shattered right leg).

If someone were to produce a HD ultra slow motion zoomed in replay of the incident then it would clarify things conclusively and if I am wrong, I am wrong.

I agree. Ramsey’s leg snapped when he planted it in the ground. If you watch it again you’ll notice it is Ramsey who jumps into the 50/50, with both feet off the ground. Shawcross is completely innocent.

RAMSEY BROKE HIS OWN LEG WITH THAT RECKLESS LUNGE.

Yes. I am no Orthopaedic Surgeon but I am pretty sure that the standard treatment for a broken ankle is NOT to immediately give the broken limb a hefty kick.

Had Ramsey’s ankle not already been broken then perhaps he could have got it out of the way or at least off the ground. As it happened, Shawcross just seemed to smack straight into an extremely vulnerable “target” (wrong word… I just cannot think of how better to put it).

As for the red card. There are two ways of looking at that. Shawcross had to leave the field. I don’t see how he could have played on. However, a red card can be appealled by Stoke. Whether they will or not remains to be seen…

Yeah it was a dreadful injury…there are some pictures which suggest Ramsey’s ankle was already broken before the tackle…and this is highly probable. This has happened 2 times to Cisse…without any tackle. But we must admit that Shawcross tackle may have worsened Ramsey’s injury but it was not his intention. It was definitely not a red card.
