After a bit of a ropey month or so during October/November, AVB has now got his side motoring again and they will be full of confidence going into this one – especially after they inflicted a rare defeat upon us at Old Trafford just prior to their barren spell.
However, a couple of the usual glitches along the way apart, we have been churning out the results ourselves of late and whilst Tottenham’s unbeaten run may now be six matches, we can boast ten – with the likes of Liverpool and Man City amongst our wins during that lot.
Generally, our record against Tottenham is very good and their victory over us earlier this season stands out as their lone success for an awfully long time. Since then though, we seem to have put that habit of going a goal (or two!) down before we really get going and our performances now are much more like those we’re accustomed to.
Still, it has to be acknowledged that this match represents our toughest challenge on paper since the City game and we will need to be fully focused throughout – we may well go a goal down but surely not in the first couple of minutes and surely we won’t give Tottenham a two goal start again.
Personally, I am looking forward to seeing the Rooney/RVP partnership restored for this one. Rooney can blow a bit hot and cold at the moment but I’m convinced that those two can form the best attacking partnership in the Premier League, if not the whole of Europe.
Anyway. Prediction time. Not an easy one this but games between us and Spurs usually contain goals and plenty of them but obviously the bookies are well onto this and aren’t giving much away.
However, on the basis that lightning won’t strike twice in the same season after twenty plus years of no lightning whatsoever, I’m going to stick my neck out and go for the straight United win here. I cannot see Spurs beating us again but I suppose the draw isn’t out of the question so on that basis, anything well over evens for the United win has to be seen as value.
